Assigned to Enhanced Services located at 3210 Labore Road in Vadnais Heights.

This newly created position will be responsible for providing additional support and guidance to the clients and staff assigned to the Enhanced Services program (ES). In part, this position will provide individualized training and support relative to effective positive behavior support strategies for specific ES clients as well as act as the primary point of contact when the Program Support Manager is not available.

Specific job responsibilities of the Lead Direct Support Professional include:

  • Lead specialized positive behavior supports training and practice sessions and mentor/demonstrate positive behavior support strategies.
  • In the absence of the Program Support Manager, be the first point of contact for others needing to interact with Enhanced Services (client home, med administrator, Production, etc.) and as directed, manage health and safety situations, coordinate production activities, and provide immediate guidance to Enhanced Services staff.
  • Provide input into client outcomes in accordance with 245D and document on service delivery, progress on program outcomes, and relevant events.
  • Train and supervise clients to perform duties in accordance with quality standards, complete client payroll, and record other program activities.
  • Assist meeting the transportation needs of the clients, including driving a company vehicle and assisting with loading and unloading passengers.
  • Transfer, transport, ambulate and position clients by appropriately and safely using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment.
  • Provide input into daily program schedules and assist in the preparation and upkeep of Enhanced Services.

People who are interested in applying should meet the following qualifications as outlined in the Lead Direct Support Professional position description:

  • High school diploma or GED cert with six to twelve months experience working with people with an intellectual disability;
  • Ability to perform emergency uses of a manual restraint (EUMR);
  • Ability to use computer technology, verbally communicate, read, and write in English, carry out written and oral instructions and training programs, provide guidance to other Enhanced Services staff, and present specialized training sessions;
  • Meet with physical demands of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation, including being able to (i) continually sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear throughout each work day; (ii) occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and run; (iii) use hands to continually finger, handle, assist, grasp, and feel; (iv) occasionally reach, push, and pull with hands and arms; (v) regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; (vi) with or without assistance from others, the physical ability to manage, move, or lift a client unable to support their own weight to move to an area of safety or an uncooperative client during a behavioral event that poses a danger to the client or others in accordance with MN Rule 9544 (Positive Supports Rule); and (vii) push and pull wheelchairs used by individuals weighing 100-200 pounds; and
  • Have a valid class “D” state driver’s license and meet the minimum requirements set forth in the company’s Safe Transportation Policy. If required, maintain a current DOT medical examiner certificate and medical waiver, if issued; and
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks and drug/alcohol tests throughout the course of employment.

In addition, to be successful in this position, qualified candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Act as a positive role-model and establish/maintain therapeutic relationships with the clients served;
  • Effectively and proactively manage behavioral events based on a keen knowledge of positive behavior support techniques, strategies, and philosophy;
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills and the ability to conduct both individual and group training; and
  • The ability to make independent decisions, engage in creative problem solving, and work without immediate supervision.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday (day hours), and is benefit eligible. The hourly rate of pay for this position starts at $17.00 per hour! In addition, new hires are eligible to receive a $500.00 bonus once they complete their training period and another $500.00 bonus following their 9th month of employment.
